Brunnthal/Munich, Germany, 7 May 2025 – At The Smarter E Europe, Europe's largest trade fair alliance for the energy industry, SFC Energy AG (“SFC”, F3C:DE, ISIN: DE0007568578), a leading provider of fuel cells for stationary, portable and mobile hybrid power solutions, and Vertiv, a global provider of critical digital infrastructure, announce a strategic technology partnership.
The two companies will collaborate on developing, designing and manufacturing reliable, sustainable backup power solutions for critical infrastructures and telecommunications. Vertiv will contribute its enclosure and power electronics technologies, while SFC will provide the power supply through its EFOY hydrogen fuel cells. Both companies have proven expertise in their respective fields and intend to jointly market emergency power systems.
The innovative outdoor energy solution will be unveiled at The Smarter E Europe 2025, Europe's largest trade fair alliance for the energy industry, which takes place in Munich from 7 to 9 May. Last year, more than 3,000 exhibitors from 55 countries presented the latest products, applications and solutions for a 24/7 renewable energy supply across 19 exhibition halls and an outdoor area.
The VertivTM NetSureTM F44 outdoor FC cabinet on display provides a reliable, uninterruptible and climate-neutral power supply for critical locations, delivering up to 7 kW and supporting 230 VAC and -48 VDC. The SFC EFOY hydrogen fuel cells integrated into the Vertiv solution are easy to install and operate without emissions. These features make them ideal for use in environmentally sensitive areas. They operate quietly and efficiently and can be flexibly connected to hydrogen storage solutions such as single cylinders or cylinder racks from local hydrogen suppliers.
In light of events involving local or widespread power outages, such as environmental disasters, extreme weather, technical failures or cyber attacks, the emergency power supply of critical infrastructures is becoming increasingly important. Such outages pose a significant threat to safety, society and the economy. Telecommunications and critical infrastructures play a vital role in managing these events, supporting rescue, emergency and police services, as well as the economy and civil society. In such scenarios, emergency power solutions like the Vertiv™ NetSure™ F44 outdoor FC with integrated SFC EFOY hydrogen fuel cells can compensate for the loss of regular power supplies.
Björn Ledergerber, Senior Vice President of SFC Energy AG: “Fuel cells have proven to be a sustainable and highly reliable solution for backup and emergency power. With their low maintenance and quiet operation, our EFOY hydrogen fuel cells are already successfully deployed in critical applications worldwide up to 50 kW. In partnership with Vertiv – a global leader in critical digital infrastructure – we are combining cutting-edge power electronics with clean hydrogen energy to deliver robust, climate-neutral solutions in the low- and mid-power range.”
Anders Ludgren, Product Manager at Vertiv: “The collaboration between SFC and Vertiv is a natural strategic fit. By combining our complementary strengths, we are able to deliver fully integrated, sustainable backup power solutions for telecommunications and critical infrastructures. Customers benefit from a coordinated turnkey solution that provides maximum performance, reliability, and availability.”
