SFC Energy receives largest single order u2013 Toyota Tsusho orders 135 EFOY Pro fuel cells for smart traffic applications in Japan

Toyota Tsusho orders 135 EFOY Pro fuel cells to equip semi-stationary LED traffic guidance systems for a Japanese customer. +++ The order confirms the increasing demand for fuel cell technology in a wide range of user industries. +++ EFOY Pro fuel cells to power smart traffic systems reduce downtime in traffic jams, are easy to install and meet, therefore, the highest expectations for safety at work

Brunnthal/Munich, Germany, January 21, 2021 – SFC Energy AG (F3C:DE, ISIN: DE0007568578), a leading international provider of direct methanol and hydrogen fuel cells for stationary and mobile hybrid power supply solutions, has gained a large-scale order from its Japanese sales partner, Toyota Tsusho Corporation. With a total of 135 EFOY fuel cells, this is the largest single order in Japan.

The systems were shipped with revenue impact in 2020. The EFOY Pro fuel cells will then be used in smart traffic applications in Japan. These are semi-stationary LED traffic guidance systems that can be flexibly deployed. SFC Energy’s fuel cell technology ensures a reliable power supply for the systems since connection to the conventional power grid is often not possible. The fuel cell technology provides, therefore, a sustainable solution to several challenges once again.

Traffic jams regularly occur in metropolitan regions and urban areas. This not only affects the quality of peopleu00b4s life but is also a huge cost factor for the global economy. Even more crucial: the environment suffers from the increased CO2 emissions of stationary vehicles. Intelligent control technology reduces unnecessary downtimes and thus the emission of pollutants. This increases at the same time road safety.

Safety naturally also plays an important role for qualified staff during the installation and maintenance of the systems. The advantage becomes even more evident when the systems are serviced. No more need for laborious and dangerous replacement of heavy batteries during flowing traffic. In overall longer service intervals than with the previous solution, only the M10 fuel cartridge with a weight of nine kilograms now needs to be replaced. Using the EFOY Pro fuel cell in traffic control systems thus brings workplace safety to a new level by saving time and weight.

Another advantage of the EFOY Pro fuel cell is its high charging capacity. Combined with an M10 fuel cartridge it reaches 830 ampere hours (Ah). The hybrid solution used so far, consisting of a solar panel and two batteries, has a total capacity of 520 Ah of which only 260 Ah can be used. It is important to note that the use of solar panels did not guarantee a permanent energy supply.

EFOY Pro fuel cells are powerful, low-maintenance and low-wear, while operating extremely quietly and virtually emission-free. At the same time, their components are 95 percent recyclable.

“If we want to rethink mobility, the discussion must not be limited only to drive systems. Mobility has many aspects. We lead sustainable concepts to success by first creating the infrastructure. In the future, this includes both the nationwide 5G mobile radio standard as the basis for autonomous driving and smart traffic control technology for reduced downtimes. Once again, the fuel cell is proving its worth as a key technology for a sustainable energy supply that truly benefits everyone. We are therefore very glad to be able to demonstrate with our Japanese partner the diverse potential of our EFOY fuel cells. We want to build on this great success and promote the culture of innovation with green technology,” says Dr. Peter Podesser, CEO of SFC Energy AG.

“We are very glad about this enriching cooperation with SFC Energy. The joint success in gaining a new customer for sustainable fuel cell technology confirms our belief that we can further expand our market position in sustainable technologies. Just like SFC Energy, Toyota Tsusho Corporation is focused on green technologies. This order is a big step towards expanding our smart traffic control technology business. In this way, we will contribute to a carbon-free society,” says Futoshi Horisaki COO of Toyota Tsusho Corporation Global Parts and Logistics Divisions.
