Brunnthal/Munich, Germany, March 20, 2009 - SFC Smart Fuel Cell AG, technology and market leader for mobile and off-grid power solutions based on fuel cells, has received a purchase order from Volkswagen AG of more than two hundred fuel cell systems to be delivered in 2009. Total contract volume amounts to approx. 630 TEUR.

Volkswagen will apply the 'EFOY 1600' type fuel cells ex works for powering electrical devices on board of VW transporter vehicles used by authorities. The vehicles are used professionally, e.g. as mobile offices, and require a high degree of functionality and dependable electricity. Providing auxiliary power to such special utility vehicles used to be a major challenge in the past. As the vehicles are used at frequently changing locations, they typically have no access to the public grid; conventional generators pose a non-acceptable noise and emission problem. The EFOY fuel cell on board solves this problem in an environmentally friendly way by automatically and silently recharging the batteries whenever needed, with practically no emissions. This increases functionality and operational flexibility of the vehicles.
