SFC Energy: EFOY Pro powers wind measurement systems

  • GWU-Umwelttechnik GmbH uses EFOY Pro fuel cell generator for powering Leosphere LiDAR wind measurement systems
  • FOY Pro’s reliable power supply ensures uninterrupted data collection and saves operation and logistic costs
  • Technology used for wind farm planning

Brunnthal/Munich, Germany, February 4, 2013 – GWU-Umwelttechnik GmbH, Erftstadt, has selected the proven EFOY Pro fuel cell generators by SFC Energy AG, technology and market leader for portable, mobile, and off-grid power generation and distribution, as power source on their LiDAR trailer. The trailer is used for transporting, storing and operating a Doppler wind LiDAR measurement system (WINDCUBE v2) by market leader Leosphere (France). It will be powered by an EFOY Pro 2200 XT. The innovative LiDAR wind measurement systems are used for assessing wind fields in the atmosphere at various heights and points in time. To this purpose the LIDAR systems (Light Detection and Ranging) emit laser rays at regular intervals, thus determining wind speed and direction profiles at heights of 200 – 300 m above ground. In this application, the modern LiDAR systems are replacing the previously used wind masts: They deliver better data, are easily set up and dismantled, and, unlike wind masts, they are not recognizable at first glance.

Doppler wind LiDAR measuring systems usually remain in one location for the time of up to one year. During the complete time SFC Energy’s EFOY Pro fuel cell generators ensure a reliable, uninterrupted supply of power for operation and, in winter, also heating of the systems – in any weather. The EFOY Pro operates in hybrid mode with a solar module in a power pack developed by Leosphere, GWUUmwelttechnik GmbH, and system integrator and SFC partner udomi. The fuel cell generator enables autonomous operation of the system over months on end without requiring any user intervention, thus significantly lowering operation and logistics costs

“In this application the EFOY Pro fuel cell generator offers major advantages over all other off-grid power sources”, says Dr. Peter Podesser, CEO of SFC Energy. “It is weather independent, maintenance free and environmentally friendly and reliably powers laser, system, and heater 24/7, in any weather and season. The integrity of data collection is safeguarded at all times.”
